Mini Plant Press

$18.00
Limited Availability

Please note that we are making more of these ASAP and will have them ready by September 16.! Email me if you want me to let you know when they are ready.

I’m very pleased to offer this lovingly handmade mini plant press based on one I bought from Vince Roth in 1985 at the Southwest Research Station, where he was director. Each one is hand-cut by my husband Jonathan and sanded and assembled by me. [Also offered as part of the Field Arts Discovery Kit, here.]

Size: 3x5” and 4 ounces

Construction: beautiful birch (sealed on the exterior) with white blotting sheets and three strong UV-resistant rubber bands

The press comes with the bands gathered to the middle (for aesthetics, I can’t help it!) but I recommend that after you add specimens for drying that you space out the bands evenly as shown in the fourth photo below. You can order replacement blotter paper from me (or use inexpensive 3x5 index cards).

Tips for mounting specimens:

  • place in plastic envelopes and glue into your journal

  • use gesso or archival PVA glue to glue to a page, and paint over and let dry

  • make sure to seal well so as to not accidentally disperse seeds into habitats where they do not belong

  • don’t forget to label your species and add the metadata!
